How to Purchase the Austrian Vignette

Process steps

1Decide Which Vignette Type

Determine how long you will use Austrian motorways. Choose 10-day for short trips, 2-month for extended stays, or annual for residents and frequent travellers. See our pricing page for a cost comparison.

2Confirm Your Vehicle Category

Check your vehicle registration document for the maximum permissible weight (MPW). Vehicles up to 3.5t require a vignette; over 3.5t use the GO-Box system. Motorcycles use the motorcycle tariff.

3Choose Your Purchase Channel

Physical stickers: petrol stations in Austria and border regions, ASFINAG service centres, post offices. Digital e-vignette: ASFINAG website, ASFINAG app, authorised online resellers. Always use official channels.

4Complete the e-Vignette Purchase

Provide: licence plate number (exactly as on the plate), country of registration, vehicle category, validity period, start date, payment method. You receive a confirmation email immediately.

5Affix the Physical Sticker

Affix to the inside of the windscreen, upper right area (from driver's perspective). Apply to glass only — not to sun strips or removable surfaces. The sticker is tamper-evident and cannot be re-used.

6Verify Your Vignette

Physical: confirm correct position and visible validity. e-Vignette: verify registration via the ASFINAG website using your licence plate number. Save your confirmation email.

7Check for Additional Route Tolls

If your route includes the Brenner Motorway, Arlberg Tunnel, Karawanken Tunnel, Tauern Motorway, or Pyhrn Motorway, prepare for additional toll charges. See special routes.

8Drive with Confidence

With a valid vignette, you are authorised to use all ASFINAG-managed motorways and expressways. Keep your confirmation accessible for e-vignettes. Enforcement checks can occur at any time.
